Turva is a mutual non-life insurance company operating nationwide in Finland. Being a mutual company means that Turva is owned by its policyholder customers and the owners of guarantee capital. For the customers this results in competitive prices, discounts, and customer-owner benefits.
Turva is a Finnish company, whose products cover all accident insurance types. Moreover, Turva acts as an insurance broker for statutory employee pension and voluntary life and pension insurance policies offered by LähiTapiola Group. Most of our customers are households, associations and small to medium-sized enterprises.
Turva’s service network encompasses whole Finland, and our agents are flexible and easy to reach. In addition to our main office located in Tampere, we have 37 offices around the country. These offices already employ over 300 insurance professionals, and in addition approximately 70 agents, who sell our products.
Our guiding values are customer orientation, productivity, reliability, and continuous development and improvement. These values have been defined together with employees of Turva.
A mutual insurance company is owned by its customers, who are policyholders, and owners of guarantee capital. Turva is thus owned by its customers, the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), 15 trade unions, two workers’ associations and LähiTapiola Group. All owners have the right to participate in decision-making in general meetings. In Turva, policyholders have a stronger position than owners of guarantee capital, whose voting right is restricted.
The ownership of a mutual company is strong, and cannot be easily taken over. Insurance operations therefore have first priority in Turva. Part of the company’s profit is given back to the customers as discounts and customer-owner benefits, and part is used to add to the company’s solvency. Profitability thus profits the customers as well. Insurance premiums also include customer-owner discounts, depending on the length of the customer relationship, and these discounts will be further developed in the future.
Turva knows the insurance needs of salaried employees and trade union members. With a long history of successful cooperation with Finnish trade unions, Turva has become their skilled and reliable co-operation partner with over 800,000 collective customers from trade unions.
The diverse insurance products of Turva are used by unions affiliated with the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), unions affiliated with The Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) and Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland (Akava). Finnish customer unions of Turva include Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL), Electrical Workers’ Union, Federation of Special Service and Clerical Employees (ERTO), and Trade Union Pro, among others.
The trade unions and Turva have jointly developed diverse insurance products that cover risks related to the unions’ operations. Members of these trade unions are eligible for considerable insurance benefits. More information on these benefits can be obtained either from Turva or the unions.
