Member insurance

Industrial Union Membership insurance is a customized insurance for Industrial Union members only.

Industrial Union has insured you with the mutual insurance company Turva. The Industrial Union members’ insurance includes travel insurance and non-occupational accident insurance. It also covers Industrial Union events and assignments.

Note! The leisure time travel insurance does not cover luggage, please obtain separate insurance for luggage.


Travel insurance covers covers union members and accompanying children younger than 20 years (the term children refers to the insured person’s own children or grandchildren, the children of the insured’s spouse and any children living in the same household as the insured)

The insurance covers the aforementioned individuals provided that they have a permanent residence in Finland and they are primarily living here. The insured also includes members who live in Sweden but conduct work in Finland.

Employed members, jobseeking members if approved by a labour authority, employed free members and student members are insured for leisure-time travel abroad. They are insured also during leisure-time travelling in Finland, when travelling farther than 50 kilometres away from home, workplace, study location or leisure-time home. Travel insurance does not cover travelling between the aforementioned locations.

Retired and supporting members are insured for travel abroad only.

Travel insurance covers trips for the maximum period of 45 days from the beginning of the trip.

Travel insurance does not cover competitive sports or training, or sports or hobbies specifically excluded in the terms.

Travel insurance covers, with no upper limit and with no excess, injuries or acute illnesses that occur during travelling. Travel insurance also covers losses from cancellation or interruption of the trip or missed departure. It also covers additional travel costs for returning home prematurely, if the trip is interrupted by a crisis situation occurring at the travel destination.

Compensation must be applied for within one year of the date on which the expenses accrued.

In case of death, reasonable transportation expenses or funeral expenses (if the insured is buried abroad) are compensated from travel insurance.

Your Industrial Union mobile membership card works as your travel insurance card.

The insured covers union members.

The insurance covers the aforementioned individuals provided that they have a permanent residence in Finland and they are primarily living here. The insured also includes members who live in Sweden but conduct work in Finland.

The insurance is valid all around the world. It is not valid in competitive sports or training, or sports or hobbies specifically excluded in the terms.

Employed members, jobseeking members if approved by a labour authority, employed free members and student members are insured for injury treatment costs, permanent handicap and death.

Compensation for injury treatment costs is up to 2 638 EUR per accident (no deductible). Compensation for permanent handicap is up to 31 819 EUR. Partial handicap is compensated by the degree of handicap. Compensation for accidental death is 10 607 EUR.

Retired and supporting members are insured only for permanent handicap up to 37 123 EUR. Partial handicap is compensated by the degree of handicap.

Compensation must be applied for within one year of the date on which the expenses accrued.

Filled compensation claim forms and attachments can be left at any Turva office. The forms can also be mailed to the following address (postage paid by Turva):

If additional information is requested on your case, provide it as soon as possible. This speeds up the payment of compensation.


In case of acute illness or injury during travelling, supply

  • Compensation claim form filled and signed
  • Original receipts of treatment expenses
  • Copy of travel tickets

In case of interruption of trip, supply

  • Compensation claim form filled and signed
  • Medical certificate of injury or acute illness
  • Travel tickets in accordance with the original travel plan. If the tickets have been given to the travel agent for compensation, then the trip organiser’s verification of the duration and cost of the trip is required.
  • Trip organiser’s verification on whether compensation has been paid, and the sum of the compensation, if applicable.
  • Original receipts of additional unavoidable travel and accommodation expenses
  • If the trip is interrupted, medical certificates and verification of the cost and duration of the trip is required.

In case of cancellation of trip, supply

  • Compensation claim form filled and signed
  • Medical certificate of injury or acute illness resulting in cancellation of the trip
  • Original receipts or trip organiser’s verification of the cost of the trip

When claiming treatment expenses and in case of permanent handicap or disability, supply

  • Compensation claim form filled and signed
  • Original receipts of treatment expenses
  • Medical certificate

In case of accidental death, supply

  • Compensation claim form filled and signed
  • Copy of police investigation report
  • Death certificate
  • Social security numbers and bank account details of beneficiaries
